Coach:  Matt Russ

Age: 28

Personal:  I grew up here, in Marietta, Georgia.   I played softball and swam competitively through high school.   My freshman year of high school I got a job assistant coaching a kid’s swim team and giving private swim lessons.   I attended The University of Georgia to get my BS in Biology.   In college I missed swimming and team sports so I played club waterpolo for UGA.   I also ran a few 5K and 10K races, which I found fun!   I also continued to teach swimming, but this time to adults.   After graduating I went on to Georgia State University for my Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.   I again got another job coaching swimming and giving swim lessons to all ages and all abilities.    During my last year of Graduate school I splurged and bought a bike.   I joined Team in Training and did my first triathlon in September 2003.   I have been racing since!   After graduation I began working with Kool Kidz Inc., practicing pediatric physical therapy.   I specialize in aquatic physical therapy (imagine that!)   I recently began additional work at Body Pro’s, practicing orthopedic physical therapy, as well as with The Sport Factory, coaching Triathletes!

I will be getting married in April, to Curtis Henry, who is a wonderful supporter of my crazy lifestyle.  He actually asked me to marry him after I finished a race!   Check this out: http://www.accessatlanta.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/accessatlanta/peachbuzz/entries/2006/07/20/proposal_at_tri.html
