April Gellatly Burkey is a USAT Certified Level I Coach and  professional triathlete.  She has competed successfully at all triathlon distances from sprint to iron-distance, and is currently focusing on the 140.6 distance of triathlon.

April started swimming competitively at the age of eight and continued through college at Youngstown State University.  After transferring home to Georgia State University, April began coaching both youth and masters swim programs in Peachtree City, GA – Southern Crescent Aquatic Team and Southside Seals Masters Swim Team.  During her time at GSU, she a racked up a handful of triathlon titles – including: Long Course AG World Champion, National Collegiate Ironman Champion, Inside Triathlon All American, 3 x Ironman World Championship Top 3 AG podiums.

In 2010, April worked with Matt Russ from The Sport Factory.  It was the first time she had worked with a coach in years.  She saw improved results because they attacked areas of opportunity – consistency on the bike, which lead to a 10-minute (ironman) marathon PR in Lake Placid – 3:40.  It was the first time in years, she had seen real gains, and she is a true believer that an outside eye and a strategic attack on the race season/series of season can lead to dramatically improved results.

With 10+ years of swim coaching experience, 10+ ironman finishes – a handful as a Pro, April brings a great deal of knowledge and first-hand experience to share with The Sport Factory athletes.  April has a level of energy, enthusiasm, and passion for triathlon that is hard to match.
