Gerry Halphen

A lifelong competitor and fitness enthusiast, Gerry has a diverse athletic background that includes: basketball, football, track, cross country, wrestling, and duathon/triathon. After competing in his first triathlon in 2003, Gerry became a certified Spinning instructor so that he could develop a deeper understanding of proper cycling fundamentals. Since then, he has, in turn, helped hundreds of athletes develop their knowledge of, and passion for, the sport of cycling.

A big proponent for what he calls “purposeful perspiration,” Gerry has worked tirelessly to develop his physical, mental and spiritual multisport acumen, completing three Ironman races (PR of 10:25 at Ironman Coeur D'Alene), 6 Half Ironman races (PR of 4:32 at Gulf Coast), and dozens of Olympic and sprint distance races along the way.

Gerry's discipline, drive and dedication are infectious, inspiring others to push themselves to achieve greater levels of performance. For the past three years, Gerry has been privileged to coach men and women, ranging in ages from 24 to 52, and of varying levels of ability and experience. In particular, he has focused on helping those athletes interested in facing the unique challenges that longer races (half and full Ironman) pose.

Gerry views his role of coach as being that of an archeologist: one who focuses on the “expert” removal of the non-essential elements, allowing the athlete to pull out of him/herself that optimal level of performance that has always been waiting within.
