Cycling Power Testing / Training

24_G_thumb_1.jpg
The cycling power meter is perhaps the most revolutionary training device since the heart rate monitor. Power meters measure how much power your legs are producing in watts. Learning to use this device effectively can be tricky and requires knowledge of power based training. The first step is to perform a series of power tests to determine power zones, just as you would heart rate zones. This test is best performed under the supervision of a qaulified coach trained in the use of a power meter.  Our Certified Power Coaches can interpret the results and help direct your training. If you are thinking of making the investment in a SRM, Power Tap, Computrainer, and incorporating it into your training, we can make the most effective use of your power meter.  We will analyze your power data post work out and power trends on a monthly basis.  You may also demo a Power Tap from us try before you buy.

The Functional Threshold Power Test

You don't have to own a power meter to utilize power testing.  We can administer a Functional Threshold Power Test at our location for a fee of $75.  This test establishes important metrics that can be revisited throughout the season.  Post test we will give you the following information...

  • Lactate threshold heart rate
  • Power to weight ratio at threshold in pounds and kilograms
  • Functional Threshold Power
  • Power Training Zones
  • Heart Rate Training Zones

Coach Matt Russ is one of handful of USAC Certified Power Based Training Coaches in the country and the only certified power coach in Georgia.  He will explain in detail the results of your test.

To schedule your test complete the form below, or you may email power@sportfactory.com  with your questions.  You may also be interested in performing your test in conjuction with our annual Watts to Weight Competition
