| Atlanta's Coaching and Training Resource
For many athletes the race season is now in full swing. To be your best precisely at the same time as your goal race requires exact training and timing. As intensity is increased training volume must be reduced. Too much intensity can quickly lead to overtraining and burn out, and a taper of proper length and design must be in effect before your race.
If you are not seeing a gain in performance, are getting recurring injuries, or do not feel you are well prepared for your events I suggest you consult with a coach. Often a one hour phone consultation can get you better organized and back on track. The Sport Factory now has a message board and you can always click on "ask the experts" for specific questions. Both of these features are manned by expert level coaches, and are free.

You should slowly progress towards your most intense training. It is the last salvo before your peak.

| Pacing and Avoiding Performance Predictions |
 |
| No athlete likes to be passed during a race. A natural reaction is speed up and attempt to keep pace with the person whose dust you are now eating, but in doing so you just got pulled out of your game and put into theirs.
