What Is The Grind?

The Grind is a specific, targeted, individualized, and progressive training system.  Each work out is planned out in detail by Elite coach Matt Russ and builds upon the previous.  The Grind is periodized and the goal is to hit you with the right type of training stress at the right time.

  • Why don't you used spin bikes in the Grind?  The first rule of training is specificity.  You produce power differently on your own bike vs a spin bike.  Spin bikes are not designed for a precise fit or training sessions over an hour.  In fact adjustment usually is in one inch increments.  Imagine adjusting your own bike in 1" increments!  Because the grind sessions last a minimum of 90 minutes or more it is more effective and safer to be on your own bike.
  • Can I incorporate power training into the class?  Most definitely.  If you do not have a power meter you can rent one.  This is also a great way to "try before you buy."  One of our power certified coaches can assist you in the proper use and function of a Power Tap.
  • What if I do not have a power meter?  No problem.  We have a parallel heart rate training plan.
  • How crowded are the classes?  We have limited space and we also like to train our athletes in a smaller, more intimate setting.  We cap the classes at 25 participants.
  • Do you do week end classes?  If the weather is inclement we will put on an additional grind session of 2+ hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  Please email coachmatt@sportfactory.com to get on the blast list for these sessions.
  • What can I expect out of a class?  We are beginner friendly but we are not a spin class.  Each class has a specific work out goal or target to hit.  This means putting your head down and working towards a specific goal vs jumping around on your bike!
