Holly Marzetti is SF Coach of the Year

The mark of a coaching excellence is not the progression of a single talented athlete; it is consistently producing high levels of performance across a broad spectrum of athletes. Under this definition Coach Holly Marzetti has met the mark and continues to set a very high standard.

Holly has worked with athletes of all ages, abilities, and endurance sport types, but her special talent is working with junior athletes. Her juniors have consistently won overall placements in triathlon, some as young as 15 years. Her athletes have been awarded college scholarships and membership to the USA Triathlon Junior Elite teams. Along the way she has earned the reputation of one of the best junior triathlon coaches in the country.

Coaching juniors can be very challenging, especially in the sport of triathlon. For starters, it requires more time to manage both the athlete and the parents through the daunting teenage years. It may also entail working within the structure of high school athletics and/or other training programs- each with their own agenda. Three sport training can easily over-volume the athlete, and the junior coach must constantly monitor the athlete for sings of over training and/or burn out. It requires excellent communication and diplomatic skills.

Holly can often be found at her athlete’s races, putting on camps and clinics, or training alongside her athletes. Holly is an elementary school teacher and she takes a holistic approach to coaching her athletes. Not only do they excel in their sport, but they are often scholastic over-achievers as well. She sees the “big picture” and always has her juniors’ best interest and future in mind, recognizing that her job is to help build character and sportsmanship as well as performance.

Holly is engaged in her community, seeks to develop her knowledge base, and brings an unparelled level of passion to her coaching as well as a fun loving sense of humor. She continuously brings out the best in her athletes both on and off the race course.
